I was so upset to learn that Pureology was bought by L’Oréal. As far as I know, Pureology is still vegan and cruelty free, but their new parent company is the devil incarnate. While I do agree that it’s good to see vegan companies get out there, there are some companies that far exceed evilness than others. L’Oréal is pure evil (no pun intended). They’re also the largest beauty and cosmetics company in the world.
L’Oréal owns ➡ Biotherm, The Body Shop, Cacharel, DIESEL, Garnier Fructis, Giorgio Armani, Inneov, Keratase, Kiehl’s, La Roche – Posay, Lancome, L’Oreal, Matrix, Maybelline, Pureology, Ralph Lauren Fragrances, Redken, Shu Uemura, SkinCeuticals, Soft Sheen, Vichy, Viktor & Rolf, and Yves Saint Laurent. 💔
Ugh. It’s horrendous what they do. ✂ The most common animal tests are the Draize eye and skin irritancy tests, which are extremely painful and cruel. During this test, rabbits are often immobilized in full-body restraints while a substance is dripped or smeared into their eyes or onto their shaved skin. Laboratory technicians then record the damage at specific intervals for hours or days. Rabbits may suffer swollen eyelids, irritated and cloudy eyes, and inflamed skin, and in the case of irreversible corrosive damage, they may endure ulcers, bleeding, bloody scabs, or blindness. When they’re finished with them, they’re killed. 🔫
There was news that L’Oréal donated $1.2 million to the EPA “in collaborative research funding and access to cosmetic ingredient safety data….” That may seem like a lot, but $1.2 million is like toilet paper money to a multi billion dollar corporation like L’Oréal. That little press release also fails to acknowledge that it is perfectly possible to create cosmetics and associated products without torturing animals.
I’m not the type of person to drop my panties like the HSUS every time they strike a deal. Until animal testing officially stops, they won’t get a penny from me. In closing, L’Oréal can kiss my vegan ass. #vegansofig
Stunning performance of the tetris theme by a cello group!
It’s a common misconception that the leather industry is a by-product of the meat industry. It is not. Animal skins turned into leather are a $1.5 Billion dollar industry, which directly supports factory farming/ slaughter houses by accounting for 25% of their profits.
The meat and dairy industry is not only heavily subsidized in the US by the government, but the profit from the sale of animal skins is essential to their business. The animals are forcefully bred in overcrowded hideously filthy, disease ridden, factory farms where they live in confinement and are subject to beatings, electric ⚡ shock, forcibly impregnated, endure painful mutilations without pain relief such as castration, branding, dehorning, tails being cut off or broken, teeth removed, testicles ripped out, and harmful hormone and antibiotic injections. They suffer not only these physical abuses but mental as well, they are taken away from their mothers at birth and develop neurotic behaviors due to confinement and torture.
I don’t know what glue you’re sniffing, but leather is NOT eco friendly. In the natural process of biodegrading the skin is the first element to rot or decompose. In order for that not to happen the skin must be treated with toxic chemicals. There are 225 chemicals used in the tanning process many of which are mordents, better known for their association with the funeral industry. That “new leather smell” is actually a chemical reaction between the skin, formaldehyde and chromium salts.
Other toxic chemicals used are lead, cyanide, arsenic, azo dyes, aniline and chlorophenols to name a few. These chemicals make the hide no longer organic matter, therefore it does not decompose. Historians have found preserved leather dating to 5000 BC. Leather requires more energy, much more space and a great deal more labor to produce than synthetics.
I don’t care how cute you think those shoes are—-> Leather is dead skin. It’s bad for the environment and the animals. Stop buying it. #vegansofig
For decades, experimenters have repeatedly performed inhumane and irrelevant smoking-related tests on animals. Although animals would never normally encounter tobacco on their own, dogs, primates, guinea pigs, hamsters, rabbits, lambs, chickens, and other animals are mutilated, pumped full of nicotine, and forced to inhale smoke.
Dogs, for example, are forced to inhale cigarette smoke on mechanical ventilators. In one experiment, vivisectors cut holes in beagles’ throats ✂ and made them breathe concentrated cigarette smoke for an entire year. Experimenters have also inserted electrodes into dogs’ penises to measure the effect of cigarette smoke on their sexual performance. Masks are strapped on to the faces of rats and mice and cigarette smoke is pumped directly into their noses. Rhesus monkeys are confined to chairs with head devices and exposed to nicotine and caffeine to determine how these substances affect breathing.
American Spirit is the only cigarette brand that does not test on animals. Testing cigarettes on animals was banned in the UK, but tobacco companies are still performing these horrific tests in Europe and the US.
If you’re not worried about your own health, then worry about theirs and stop smoking. #vegansofig
